The 75,000 square foot Weber Grill Corporate office facility in Palatine needed resealing of the large honed granite-paneled exterior staircases. Differential movement and long-term weathering had split some of the old sealant joints and fractured several of the large panels. Additionally, some of the panels had shifted out of plane, spoiling the overall visual effect of the wall surfaces. To alleviate these deficiencies, NGS carefully removed the cracked and shifted panels form their original anchorages and reinstalled them. New weep systems were installed to facilitate cavity drainage. Precise positioning of the panels was required to match the existing joint size and maintain proper lateral alignment. Our craftsmen then installed new backer rod and sealed the joints with a hybrid sealant. Power washing was also performed, bringing the completed staircases back to their original appearance, but with enhanced cavity drainage, extending the system’s lifespan.
