Next Gen Services, LTD was asked by the A/E to provide masonry contracting services to facilitate his investigation of a damaged window lintel at a 1920s vintage brick and limestone courtyard building in Lincoln Park. The stone needed repair because it had fractured because of corrosion build up on the steel shelf angle located directly above it. The large limestone lintel, measuring approximately 9-1/2” x 12” x 9’-6” posed difficulties due to its sheer size and weight. NGS removed adjacent masonry, affording the A/E a clear view of the subsurface conditions that caused the cracking.

At the architect’s request, NGS provided guidance on the most appropriate method of repair, without requiring access to the residence. NGS’ expertise with vintage and historical masonry buildings assisted the A/E in designing a permanent repair that will be the model for lintel repair in the association’ s upcoming, multi-phased façade maintenance plan.
